Who's buying?

Two dads. Two opinions.

Two local dads. No names, no beer expertise, just very strong opinions about somewhere to sit.

This is a bit of fun. We're two dads who like a good pint, a friendly welcome and – crucially – a pub where we can actually hear each other talk. Everything here is our own independent opinion, based on our visits, paid for out of our own pockets. Pubs have good days and bad days, so take us with a pinch of salt (and a packet of crisps).

What makes a proper pub?

The pint

Beer quality, condition and choice.

The welcome

Friendly service and how comfortable we felt.

The natter test

Can you hear each other without shouting? Five means easy conversation.

The comfort

Seating, warmth and general atmosphere.

The toilets

Cleanliness and whether they were stocked.

The value

Whether the visit felt worth the money.
